Globally, the shipping industry is a major consumer of fossil fuels and a major emitter of carbon and other undesirable emissions. Ocean-going and river-based ships are frequently found in port, inshore or on rivers, close to urban populations where their emissions can be harmful. This is especially true in cities with high volumes of river traffic, and in major port cities
NPROXX is actively working with partners to develop hydrogen storage solutions specifically targeted at maritime applications that would allow:
- Large ocean-going ships to switch to hydrogen power when in port, close to shore or whilst docking
- River-based shipping to run almost entirely on hydrogen power
These applications have the potential to make a significant impact on the level of harmful emissions produced by the maritime industry when close to urban and built up areas.
